Week of 11/18

It is hard to believe that this is week 3 of the second marking period!  Please continue to support your student by making sure that they have a daily routine.  Math homework is still given every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.  Students should be coming to school with their supplies.  Many students are in need of paper and pencils daily.  Please check to see if these are items that your child is in need of.  I am also requesting that if your child brings a snack to school that it is healthy.  Some students are coming to school with candy or large bags of chips.  The junk food is not helping them keep engaged or focused on their learning.  Thank you for your support!

Monday-
Students are learning how to multiply fractions by fractions.  They were introduced to simplifying both before and after multiplying.  The students referred to the pre-simplifying as the butterfly method.
Homework:  Write down your 1st 10 vocabulary words and give me a math example of each one.  You should not use the examples that I gave in class.
Tuesday-
Students will use fraction models to prove their products correct.  We will continue working on simplifying fractions.  We will review GCF to help us with this.
Homework:  Study for vocab test (words 1-10).  Multiply fraction activity will be completed as homework if it is not finished in class.
Wednesday-
Vocab Test words 1-10.  This will be a matching test.  Students will be partner problem solving.  We will be looking at real life application and applying skills of multiplying fractions.

Thursday-
I will introduce multiplying a mixed number by a fraction.  Students will continue problem solving with fractions as well as reinforcing the skill of pre-simplifying.
Homework:  Review skills of changing improper fractions to mixed numbers, multiplying fractions, and real world problem solving.
Friday-
5 question assessment on multiplying fractions.  Students will continue to work on multiplying mixed numbers.
